Stretch Ceiling.
Glass atriums are notorious for solar gain. While they provide an abundance of natural sunlight, they can quickly heat up a space and increase solar glare. Fabric Architecture’s internal FreeStyle stretch ceiling panels were the perfect canvas for solving such problems in the large south-facing atrium at Samsonite’s UK Head Office.
The challenge.
During summer months, when the sun was at its brightest, it was very difficult to view computer screens and the reception area was hot. In addition to these issues, Samsonite wanted to break-up some of the vast atrium space with colour, while reducing the ‘echo’ effect in the atrium. The challenge was to achieve optimum placement to block the sun.
The solution.
Fabric Architecture’s Interior Design Team recommended FreeStyle stretched fabric panels for the atrium. Using specialist software to determine shade plotting, our Design Team was able to determine the best shapes, sizes and placement to reduce solar glare. The result is a pair of bold gold triangles and three quads in black and white. Panels are lightweight, fire retardant and were easy to install.
