Swindon Outlet Village playground canopy

DESCRIPTION

Fabric Structure
The Designer Outlet Village in Swindon underwent a £35m expansion that included redevelopment of the Grade II listed Long Shop. The historic building, built by Great Western Railway, has been derelict since 1986 when 140 years of locomotive manufacture and repair ended.

The Challenge

Fabric Architecture was thrilled to be part of this exciting development which includes a new crèche and an adventure playground with a tensile fabric structure. Our design for the huge playground canopy is in keeping with the proportions of the majestic Long Shop building.

The Solution

Standing 7.5m tall and 38m long, it the fabric structure has 9 bays of undulating barrel vaults, providing 330sqm of coverage. Visiting children can explore the slides, tunnels and soft ball area while their parents shop. The installation completed in late 2014.
